The Ukrainian Armed Forces Air Force successfully repelled a drone attack early this morning; however, a Su-27 fighter jet was lost during the operation. A special commission has been established to investigate the details of the incident.
The official statement released by the Ukrainian Air Force reads:
“On the morning of April 28, 2025, during a complex combat mission aimed at providing air support to the troops and neutralizing enemy attack UAVs, a Su-27 fighter jet belonging to the Air Force was lost. The causes of the incident are being investigated by a special commission that has been set up.”
Pilot in Stable Condition
The Su-27 pilot involved in the incident successfully ejected and was swiftly transported to a medical facility. Officials have confirmed that the pilot’s life is not in danger and that their condition is stable.
Recent Losses in the Ukrainian Air Force
The Ukrainian Air Force has suffered several losses in recent months. In April, 26-year-old Ukrainian pilot Pavlo Ivanov lost his life during an F-16 mission flight. Additionally, in August 2024, experienced pilot Oleksii Mes (callsign “Moonfish”) was lost along with his F-16 fighter jet while repelling a large-scale attack.
Investigation Ongoing
While the cause of the Su-27’s loss remains unclear, the results of the comprehensive investigation launched at the scene are expected to be announced in the coming days. Officials have stated that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and that the operational safety standards of the Air Force will be reviewed.
