The Air Traffic Controllers and Other Transportation Workers Union (HTK-SEN) has created significant awareness through its initiatives regarding personnel rights. These efforts, conducted without seeking prior approval, have been reviewed by a high-level commission under the directive of the Presidency. While the process represents a major achievement for all air traffic controllers and State Airports Authority (DHMİ) employees, some entities are causing controversy with baseless claims intended to undermine the process.
Air Traffic Controllers’ Rights on the Parliamentary Agenda
According to HTK-SEN, during a meeting chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, it was decided that demands related to the personnel rights of air traffic controllers would be resolved following the opening of Parliament. After these developments, the union announced the termination of its activities as of August 1.
The union stated that the draft proposal has been submitted to Parliament and is expected to be discussed soon, marking a step forward for concrete actions on the rights of air traffic controllers.
Reaction to Disinformation and Opportunism
HTK-SEN criticized certain entities with no contribution to the process for making claims that no parliamentary action exists and for suggesting that other institutions should also be involved. The union emphasized that such statements only serve to “muddy the waters and delay the process.”
The union also addressed attempts by groups trying to mislead members with disinformation and populist rhetoric, stating, “The opportunistic and deceptive efforts of these entities to gain members are left to the judgment of our members.”
A Call for Prudence to All Parties
HTK-SEN highlighted that this process is significant not only for air traffic controllers but also for all DHMİ employees. It called on all parties to focus on tangible steps for employee benefits and to refrain from efforts that might undermine the process.
Reiterating its belief in a positive resolution, the union said, “We are confident that, with the support of our Parliament, our Minister, and our Director General, these efforts will not cast a shadow on our hard work.”
The Importance of the Process and Future Steps
The process initiated for the rights of air traffic controllers represents a major win for both employees and the sector. However, HTK-SEN emphasized the need to prevent such critical processes from being overshadowed by misinformation and manipulation.
In its statement, the union expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the process and affirmed its commitment to closely monitor future developments.
