Storm Chaos at Jeddah Airport: Luggage Flew Through the Air!

A severe storm and heavy rain that hit Saudi Arabia on Monday caused chaos at King Abdulaziz International Airport, one of the country’s main airports in Jeddah. Footage from January 6 showed strong winds scattering baggage containers and rain creating adverse conditions at the airport.

The torrential rain and thunderstorm, which were widespread throughout the city, turned streets and roads into rivers. Severe flooding swept away vehicles, caused some cars to drift, and significantly damaged infrastructure.

Warnings and Rescue Efforts for Passengers

Airport staff advised passengers to check for possible changes in flight schedules and to seek information from airlines. State media reported that the adverse weather conditions also affected nearby areas, including Mecca and Medina, which experienced hail and flash floods. Rescue teams were deployed to assist people and vehicles stranded in Mecca.

Weather Forecasts and Alerts

The Saudi National Meteorological Center (NMC) predicted that moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms would continue throughout the week. Authorities urged citizens and local residents to remain cautious and prepared for risks of sudden floods and overflows.

Efforts to address the disruptions in the country’s infrastructure and transportation caused by the severe weather are reportedly ongoing.
