Statement from Defense Minister Güler on F-16 and Eurofighter Typhoon Purchases: Agreements Signed

As Turkey accelerates its efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities, Defense Minister Yaşar Güler made significant announcements regarding the procurement of F-16 Viper and Eurofighter Typhoon jets. Speaking on a television program last night, Minister Güler noted that relations with the U.S. in the defense sector are progressing positively, saying, “Contracts have been signed for the purchase of 40 F-16 Viper fighter jets. Likewise, we received a positive response from Germany for the acquisition of 40 Eurofighter Typhoons.”

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation with allied NATO countries, Güler responded to a question about the F-16 process possibly advancing under Trump’s tenure: “Our relations with our American counterparts are very positive. Agreements have been made for the purchase of 40 F-16 Vipers. Additionally, with the support of NATO allies such as the United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain, approval has been received from Germany for the purchase of 40 Eurofighter Typhoons.”

Minister Güler also shared expectations regarding the U.S. plans to withdraw troops from Syria, expressing that they are closely monitoring developments in the region.
