Spain Vetoes U.S. Arms Shipments to Israel

The Spanish government has vetoed the use of its bases in Cádiz and Seville by U.S. military aircraft and ships for the shipment of weapons and military equipment to Israel. The Madrid administration made this decision in response to Tel Aviv’s attacks in Gaza.

What Does the Decision Cover?

The ban is not limited to cargoes going directly to Israel. Even if they stop at other ports, all American aircraft and ships whose final destination is Israel are affected by this decision. This effectively blocks military shipments carried out through indirect routes as well.

Bases Under Madrid’s Control

According to Spanish newspaper El País, the Rota (Cádiz) and Morón de la Frontera (Seville) bases are under Spanish sovereignty and managed by Spanish military personnel. All activities at these bases can only take place with the approval of the Madrid government.

Spain’s move is regarded internationally as a significant policy step aimed at restricting the flow of military support to Israel.
