South Korean Navy P-3 Patrol Aircraft Crashes in Pohang

A P-3 patrol aircraft belonging to the South Korean Navy crashed in a mountainous area near the southeastern city of Pohang during a training flight. Authorities confirmed that all four crew members on board were killed in the accident.

According to an official statement from the South Korean Navy, the crash occurred at 1:50 p.m. local time. The aircraft had taken off at 7:43 a.m. Turkish time. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft lost altitude for reasons yet unknown and crashed into the ground.

Local Residents Report the Incident

After the crash, local residents noticed smoke rising from the mountainous area and alerted the authorities. Search and rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene, where they located the wreckage and confirmed that all crew members had died.

No Civilian Casualties

Officials emphasised that there were no civilian casualties in the incident, as the aircraft was carrying only military personnel on a training mission. Security measures were increased in the area following the crash, and both technical and criminal investigations have been launched to determine the cause.

As reported by the Yonhap News Agency, a local official from Pohang stated, “We have confirmed that the aircraft involved in the crash belongs to the Navy. We are currently investigating the details of the incident.”
