Following meteorologists’ warnings about adverse weather conditions in Istanbul and its surroundings, it has been announced that 10% of flights at Sabiha Gökçen Airport will be canceled on February 5 and 6.
The expected heavy snowfall and sharp temperature drops may cause disruptions in both air and ground transportation. In a statement by HEAŞ (the operator of Sabiha Gökçen Airport), it was stated: “Due to adverse meteorological conditions, 10% of our flights are planned to be canceled on February 5-6. We strongly advise our passengers to check the latest status of their flights through their airline companies’ websites and call centers.”
Heavy Snowfall and Temperature Drop Warning
Meteorologists predict a significant temperature drop in the Marmara Region on Wednesday, February 5, with snowfall expected in Istanbul’s higher elevations. Across the city, temperatures are anticipated to fall to around 5-6°C. Meanwhile, heavy snowfall is expected to impact the Central Anatolia and Eastern Anatolia regions.
Critical Warnings for Travelers and Drivers
Authorities have warned drivers to be cautious of ice formation on the roads and advised travelers to reconsider their plans based on the weather conditions.
