Six New Test Prototypes of Kaan, Turkey’s National Combat Aircraft, to Be Produced

The development process of Turkey’s national combat aircraft, Kaan, is accelerating. Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün announced the production of six new prototypes and emphasized that rapid tests will expedite Kaan’s mass production.

Turkey is making significant strides in its defense industry. The development of the national combat aircraft, Kaan, is being fast-tracked, with six new prototypes planned for production. Haluk Görgün, President of the Defense Industry, shared these developments, announcing that the six test versions of Kaan would allow simultaneous testing for quicker results.

In an interview with Milliyet newspaper, Görgün stated that Kaan’s first flight occurred in February and was followed by a second flight. Subsequently, with the authorization granted by the Defense Industry Executive Committee, the production process was expedited. Görgün explained, “Following these flights, we received immediate authorization from the Defense Industry Executive Committee to produce six prototypes at TUSAŞ and began testing them rapidly.”

The first deliveries are targeted for 2028. Görgün highlighted that studies on cost calculations, production quantities, and potential export plans for the national combat aircraft are ongoing. He also emphasized continued work on sixth-generation fighter jets and unmanned aerial vehicles alongside Kaan’s development.

The Defense Industry President stressed the importance of integrating hardware, software, and algorithms developed during reciprocal tests involving manned and unmanned platforms. He added, “We must focus intensively on the components and technologies for future-generation fighter jets.”

Additionally, Görgün mentioned the Hürjet, a combat aircraft designed primarily for pilot training but capable of performing various missions. While evaluating the versatile potential of Hürjet, he noted that TUSAŞ and other companies are progressing with its integration process.
