Singer Who Said ‘You Didn’t Upgrade Me. We Will Bomb Your Plane’ on Flight Faces Prison Sentence

A 39-year-old man named Gediz Solgançok, who caused panic among passengers by saying “You didn’t upgrade me. We will bomb your plane” on a Kayseri-Istanbul flight, has been charged with “hijacking or seizing transportation vehicles” and faces a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years.

The incident occurred on June 15th of last year at Kayseri Erkilet Airport in the Kocasinan district. The Turkish Airlines flight from Kayseri to Istanbul began boarding at 03:45. Allegedly, as Solgançok boarded the plane, he told the cabin chief, “You didn’t upgrade me. We will bomb your plane.” Some passengers who heard these words experienced a panic over a potential terrorist attack, leading to a commotion among the passengers. Some even wanted to disembark, prompting the pilot to report the situation to law enforcement. Gediz Solgançok was taken into custody, and the plane departed 54 minutes late. Solgançok was released to be tried without detention after giving his statement.

‘My Words Were Entirely Meant as Humor’

The investigation conducted by the Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has concluded, and Solgançok has been charged with “hijacking or seizing transportation vehicles,” facing a potential prison sentence of 5 to 10 years. The indictment, accepted by the 12th Criminal Court of First Instance in Kayseri, included Solgançok’s statement, in which he said, “I told the cabin crew ‘You didn’t upgrade me. We will bomb your plane’ entirely as a joke. After saying this to the cabin crew, I took my seat. She laughed. Ground service staff heard my words and reported them to the pilot. They removed me from the plane and took me to the police station. My words were entirely meant as humor. I make such jokes.”
