At Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, the second runway numbered 06R-24L has now started serving at full capacity for both take-off and landing operations.
Obstacles Removed
Previously, only take-offs were permitted in the 24L direction, while landings could not be performed due to obstacle restrictions. Following the successful completion of works carried out by the Airport Authority HEAŞ, the required flight checks were conducted, and the 24L direction was officially commissioned for landing operations.
First Landing Performed by an AJet Aircraft
With the new arrangement, the 24L runway can now be fully utilised with direct approach and ILS service. The first landing operation on the runway was performed today at 13:00 by an AJet aircraft operating the Şırnak – Istanbul flight.
Air Traffic Relief Expected
With the second runway being commissioned at full capacity, operational efficiency at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport is expected to increase, providing significant relief in heavy air traffic.
