The low-cost airline Ryanair has resumed flights from Lübeck Airport after nearly a decade-long hiatus. The first flight took off for Palma de Mallorca on Sunday at 13:31. Initially scheduled to depart at 12:00 noon, the flight took off with a delay, according to the airport’s homepage.
New Routes and Flight Schedule
According to an airport spokesperson, Ryanair will begin flights to Málaga in southern Spain on Monday. Additionally, starting Tuesday, the airline will operate four weekly flights to London Stansted. There will be three weekly flights to Palma de Mallorca and two weekly flights to Málaga. Ryanair aims to transport more than 80,000 passengers annually.
Lübeck Airport’s Statement of Satisfaction
A spokesperson for Lübeck Airport expressed pride in welcoming Ryanair back to Lübeck after so many years. They noted that the available flight options have been positively received by the local community and that the initial flights have been largely booked. Furthermore, it was highlighted that the first flights from Spain brought more passengers to Lübeck than initially expected.
Long-Term Partnership and Airport Investments
Lübeck Airport has signed a long-term contract with Ryanair, making it unlikely that the airline will leave the region anytime soon. In 2014, Ryanair shifted operations to Hamburg due to uncertain financial and ownership conditions. However, increasing operational costs prompted the airline’s return to Lübeck. To enhance its competitiveness, the airport has invested approximately €50 million in infrastructure improvements.
