Low-cost airlines Ryanair and Jet2 have updated their flight policies regarding pregnant passengers, issuing an important reminder. Under the new guidelines, passengers beyond a certain stage of pregnancy must provide an additional “Fit to Fly Certificate” before boarding.
Certificate Required After 28 Weeks
Ryanair has confirmed that passengers can travel without any medical documentation up to 28 weeks of pregnancy. However, from the 28th week onwards, they must present a “Fit to Fly” certificate signed by a doctor or midwife, detailing their pregnancy status. This form can be downloaded from Ryanair’s official website and must be issued within two weeks of the flight date.
-
For single pregnancies: Travel is permitted until the end of week 36.
-
For multiple pregnancies: Travel is allowed only up to week 32, after which it is strictly prohibited.
What Is Jet2’s Policy?
Jet2 follows a similar approach to Ryanair. The airline allows pregnant passengers to fly without any medical certificate up to 27 weeks. However, from weeks 28 to 35, travellers must present a fitness-to-fly letter signed by a doctor or midwife at the airport.
-
For single pregnancies: Travel is not permitted beyond week 36.
-
For multiple pregnancies: Flying is restricted after week 34.
Additionally, Jet2 requires that these letters be issued no more than 7 days before the outbound flight and 16 days before the return flight.
Advice for Passengers: Notify in Advance
Both airlines strongly advise pregnant passengers to consult their doctor or midwife before flying to ensure their journey is safe. Moreover, if a pregnancy has exceeded 28 weeks, passengers must inform ground staff before departure.
