Russia and North Korea Sign Scheduled Flights Agreement

As the war between Russia and Ukraine intensifies, relations between Moscow and its ally North Korea are reaching notable new levels. In a recent gesture, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent 75 rare animals to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un via Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Alexandr Kozlov. The animals were transported to Pyongyang in special cages aboard a flight.

From Military Cooperation to Commercial Partnership

The cooperation between Russia and North Korea is expanding beyond military domains to include trade, economics, and science. During his recent visit to Pyongyang, Minister Kozlov held meetings with North Korean officials, including the Minister of External Economic Affairs, Yun Jong Ho. The two sides signed a protocol for commercial, economic, scientific, and technological cooperation.

While the protocol’s details remain undisclosed, Russian media reported that both nations agreed to increase the number of scheduled flights between them.

Putin’s Gift of “Rare Animals”

During the visit, President Putin sent a unique gift to Kim Jong-Un. Among the animals transported were an African lion, two brown bears, two Tibetan yaks, five cockatoos, 25 peacocks, and 40 mandarin ducks. These animals are intended to enrich the collection of Pyongyang’s renowned zoo, which has been operational since 1959.

Local media noted that the zoo would significantly expand its exhibits with these rare additions.

What Happened?

Minister Alexandr Kozlov visited Pyongyang on November 17 to participate in the 11th North Korea-Russia Intergovernmental Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation Committee meeting. During his trip, he held warm discussions with Kim Jong-Un, laying the groundwork for further strengthening bilateral relations.
