Jordan’s flag carrier, Royal Jordanian Airlines, is preparing to resume flights to the strategic Syrian city of Aleppo after a 14-year hiatus. The airline conducted a test flight to Aleppo International Airport today.
Aleppo International Airport Reopened
State television channel Al-Mamlaka announced that the test flight took place following the reopening of Aleppo International Airport last week after undergoing repairs. This marks a crucial step in the airport’s process of resuming international flights.
Royal Jordanian Airlines’ First International Flight
Royal Jordanian Airlines CEO Samer Majali stated that their airline is the first international carrier to land at Aleppo International Airport. He also noted that a delegation from Royal Jordanian Airlines, the Jordanian Civil Aviation Authority, and other officials participated in the test flight.
Official Flights to Aleppo May Begin Next Month
Majali further announced that, if preparations are completed, official flights to Aleppo could begin as early as next month.
11 Weekly Flights to Damascus
Royal Jordanian Airlines resumed flights to Damascus International Airport last month. The airline currently operates 11 weekly flights to the Syrian capital.
