German drone systems manufacturer Quantum Systems aims to double its drone production in Ukraine.
Production and Technological Cooperation
During discussions at the Munich Security Conference, a delegation from Ukraine’s Ministry of Strategic Industries met with Quantum Systems officials. The talks focused on accelerating unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production and strengthening the Ukrainian Defense Forces with domestically produced UAVs.
Currently, local drone assembly is taking place in Ukraine, with two operations in place: a research and development center, and a drone maintenance and development unit. Quantum Systems aims to accelerate the localization process of its Ukrainian production facility.
Localization in the Defense Sector
Quantum Systems plans to fully localize drone production in Ukraine by August 2024. While the company currently assembles drones using kits imported from Germany, it aims to produce increasing structural components locally within Ukraine.
Notably, the drones produced will be equipped with wings and CRPA antennas capable of receiving satellite signals produced in Ukraine. The company also plans to locally manufacture the aircraft’s body and other structural components in the future.
Growing Investment in Ukraine
Quantum Systems currently operates a Service, Support, Training, and Logistics Center in Ukraine, employing 25 Ukrainian staff. Ukraine’s Minister of Strategic Industries, Herman Smetanin, expressed support for the company’s operations in the country, stating, “We are strengthening our partners and assisting them at every stage.”
