Strengthening Defense Collaboration with the UK
A joint statement released by Qatar highlighted an agreement to extend the cooperation between the Qatar Emiri Air Force and the UK Royal Air Force beyond 2030. This partnership will include joint pilot training and exercises to enhance their skills. The procurement of 12 additional Eurofighter Typhoons will further solidify this defense collaboration.
A £2.8 Billion Agreement
According to Army Recognition, the deal is estimated to be worth £2.8 billion. The agreement will support operations at BAE Systems’ Samlesbury and Warton facilities in the UK, helping to sustain local employment. This new acquisition builds on Qatar’s 2017 purchase of 24 Typhoon jets for €5.6 billion. Qatar’s air fleet also includes French Rafales and American F-15QA aircraft.
Supporting the Eurofighter Typhoon Production Line
As analyzed by the Financial Times, concerns about the potential closure of the Typhoon production lines were raised by labor unions. This new order is expected to extend the production line’s activity by at least another year, easing these concerns. The Eurofighter Typhoon is jointly produced by a consortium of BAE Systems, Airbus, and Leonardo. This deal also strengthens the consortium’s relationships with key customers, including Qatar, the UK, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
