Qatar Airways Cargo Transports 42 Million Roses for Valentine’s Day

Qatar Airways Cargo transported 2,800 tons of flowers from Kenya and South America for Valentine’s Day, delivering approximately 42 million freshly cut red roses to markets worldwide.

The airline shipped around 1,600 tons from Nairobi through scheduled flights and special charter services, while 1,200 tons were transported from Bogotá and Quito to destinations in Amsterdam, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia. To meet the high seasonal demand, nine additional Boeing 777 charter flights were operated from Nairobi and ten extra charters from Quito.

Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo, stated: “The floriculture industries in Kenya and South America are remarkable success stories that deserve support. These countries are known for their exceptional quality of cut roses, and we take pride in connecting these stunning flowers to the world while supporting local economies.”

He further added: “As part of our commitment to socio-economic development, we leverage our extensive global network to support the floriculture sectors in Kenya, Bogotá, and Quito. Through over 170 passenger and 60 cargo destinations, we have expanded capacity with additional charter flights.”

For this large-scale operation, Qatar Airways Cargo deployed Boeing 777 freighters, ensuring an uninterrupted cold chain using its Fresh product to maintain the flowers’ freshness throughout transit.
