In Italy, several official websites, including those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and two airports in Milan, came under cyberattacks by pro-Russian hackers. The incident has reignited concerns over similar past attacks in the country.
“NoName057” Group Claims Responsibility
According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the pro-Russian hacker group “NoName057” claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement via Telegram, the group announced, “Italian Russophobes are getting the response they deserve,” targeting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, two Milan airports, and other official websites.
Flights Unaffected
Italian authorities confirmed that the attack did not disrupt any flights. Security experts believe the incident likely involved a “DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service)” attack, which targets websites by overwhelming them with traffic.
Similar Attacks in the Past
In February and March 2023, multiple Italian government agencies experienced cyberattacks by the same group. These recurring incidents underscore the urgent need to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure against cyber threats.
