The Presidency Communications Directorate’s Disinformation Combat Center (DCC) denied claims in certain media outlets that “ISIS members were released in the case of the 45 people killed at Atatürk Airport.” The DCC emphasized that these reports have led to misleading perceptions among the public.
In a statement, the DCC clarified that the news suggesting “the perpetrators of the terrorist attack at Atatürk Airport, where 45 people lost their lives, were released” was misleading and inaccurate. The statement included the following details:
Released Defendants Are Not the Perpetrators of the Attack
The statement noted that six defendants had been in custody for 8 years and had no direct involvement with the attack. These individuals were being tried for charges related to their membership in the ISIS terrorist organization and crimes involving the organization’s financing. It was emphasized that the length of their detention was nearly equal to the sentences they could face, which led to their release.
Misleading Public Perception
The DCC expressed concerns that the news could create a false public perception, stating, “We have determined that such reports created the impression that the actual perpetrators of the terrorist attack had been released.” The center highlighted the importance of preventing disinformation and stressed that the public should have access to accurate and reliable information.
