Polish customs authorities have seized approximately five tonnes of Boeing aircraft tyres after intercepting an attempt to violate European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia. The incident occurred during an inspection at the Koroszczyn Customs Checkpoint near the Belarus border.
Truck Declared as Carrying “Car Tyres”
The truck in question was attempting to enter Poland with a declared cargo of “car and bus tyres.” However, a detailed inspection revealed that the shipment actually consisted of specialised tyres intended for civilian Boeing aircraft.
Spanish Sender, Azerbaijani Recipient
According to a statement by the Polish Customs Service, the goods were shipped by a Spain-based company, with the intended recipient listed as a company based in Azerbaijan. However, investigators suspect that the actual destination was Russia. The case is being viewed as an attempt to circumvent EU sanctions via indirect channels.
Goods Seized Under EU Sanctions
The Boeing aircraft tyres are reportedly included on the EU’s sanctions list against Russia. Customs officials have classified the incident as an act of customs fraud, and a formal investigation has been launched.
