Pilot and Technician Shortage to Surge: Striking Data from the Airbus Report!

The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus (AIR.PA) forecasts that the global aircraft services sector will grow by an average of 3.6% annually over the next 20 years. The company announced that, in parallel with the increasing demand for air travel, employment opportunities will arise for 2.35 million new pilots, technicians, and aviation professionals.

Airbus stated that in the civil aviation market, which has rapidly recovered following COVID-19, fleet renewal and digital maintenance services will drive growth.

Service-Oriented Transformation Strategy

In recent years, Airbus has diversified its operations by focusing not only on aircraft manufacturing but also on the highly profitable after-sales services segment. In this context, the company has become one of the global players directly competing with independent suppliers in services such as maintenance, training, spare parts management, and flight data analysis.

Airbus officials emphasised that this strategic direction will enhance the company’s long-term revenue sustainability and provide a significant advantage in the increasingly digital aviation sector.

Global Demand Continues to Rise

The growth in air transport demand is expected to be concentrated primarily in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa regions. Airbus noted that the shortage of pilots and technicians will reach its highest levels in these regions and that training investments are being planned accordingly.

The company projects that by 2045, the transition to next-generation aircraft in both commercial and private aviation will accelerate worldwide, leading to an expansion in maintenance and technical support services.
