The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) emphasized that there is “effective communication and cooperation” between the U.S. and Turkey regarding the operations carried out by Turkish security forces against PKK/YPG elements in northern Syria, following the terrorist attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS).
Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder responded to questions on the matter during a daily press briefing. Ryder stated that the U.S. acknowledges Turkey’s security concerns, saying, “We understand and support Turkey’s legitimate security concerns.”
“Turkey and the U.S. Operate with Strong Communication Lines as NATO Allies”
Ryder highlighted that the U.S. recognizes the PKK as a terrorist organization, while also noting that communication between the two countries is built on a strong foundation as NATO allies. “It is crucial that the two leaders remain committed to maintaining an open line of communication,” Ryder said, adding that military coordination between Turkey and the U.S. continues during this process.
Critical Meeting Between Minister Güler and Austin
Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler held a phone call with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd James Austin, during which the two countries exchanged views on defense and security matters. The discussion covered Turkey’s actions against terrorist threats in the region and the ongoing cooperation with the U.S.
