Pegasus Airlines has released its traffic data for March 2025. The airline increased its number of passengers on both domestic and international routes while taking another step towards its sustainability goals by reducing its carbon emissions intensity.
10% Increase in Passenger Numbers in March
In March 2025, Pegasus Airlines carried a total of 3.01 million passengers, marking a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. The total number of passengers for the first quarter of 2025 (January–March) reached 9.02 million, representing a 12% year-on-year growth.
Significant Rise in Seat Supply and ASK Figures
In March 2025, seat capacity rose by 15%, reaching 3.57 million.
Available Seat Kilometres (ASK) increased by 13% to 5,468 million kilometres.
However, despite the increased capacity, the load factor declined by 3.3 percentage points, from 87.6% to 84.3%.
Figures for Domestic and International Routes
Domestic Routes
-
Passenger number: 1.11 million (+10%)
-
Load factor: 86.9% (-3.8 pts)
-
ASK: 971 million km (+14%)
International Routes
-
Passenger number: 1.90 million (+11%)
-
Load factor: 82.9% (-3.0 pts)
-
ASK: 4,497 million km (+12%)
Although the drop in load factor was more pronounced on domestic routes, the overall increase in passenger numbers highlights Pegasus’s strong performance, particularly in international markets.
Emission Factor Standardised
As of January 2024, Pegasus implemented a new method for calculating carbon emissions. The emission factor for jet fuel was fixed at 3.16 gCO₂/RPK for all periods. This standardisation was introduced to improve comparability and enhance environmental transparency.
Monthly Emission Data for 2025 (gCO₂/RPK):
-
January: 58.2
-
February: 55.5
-
March: 57.5
-
Q1 average: 57.1
Annual Carbon Emission Trends:
-
2019: 65.1
-
2020: 71.3
-
2021: 71.0
-
2022: 62.1
-
2023: 61.3
-
2024: 58.3
The data demonstrates Pegasus’s consistent reduction in carbon emissions intensity over the past five years and its continued investment in environmentally friendly flights.
Passengers Per Flight and Other Indicators
The average number of passengers per landing in March remained steady at 178, the same as the previous year.
The total number of flights (landings) in March 2025 was 16,884, an 11% increase compared to March last year.
Rising Competition in the Aviation Sector
Pegasus’s traffic and carbon emissions data indicate a continued post-pandemic recovery in the aviation sector and show that the company has maintained its competitiveness during this period. Despite increased capacity, declining load factors may prompt airlines to reconsider their pricing strategies and flight planning.
Pegasus started 2025 with strong double-digit growth in the first quarter.
Its emission control policies, focused on sustainability, are setting it apart in the industry.
As capacity continues to rise, maintaining load factors will be one of the company’s top priorities in the coming months.
