Turkey’s leading low-cost airline, Pegasus Airlines, has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) as part of its codeshare agreement with Spanish carrier Iberia. The agreement will allow Pegasus to place its own “PC” code on flights operated by Iberia.
Initially covering flights to New York (JFK) and Miami (MIA) via Madrid (MAD), this arrangement will enable Pegasus passengers to travel to the U.S. from Turkey with a single ticket, transferring through Madrid. Passengers will be able to travel on Iberia aircraft under a Pegasus flight number.
The agreement is reciprocal. Iberia will also place its “IB” code on Pegasus-operated flights between Madrid and Turkey, providing single-ticket connections from the U.S. to Turkey. This will make Madrid a strategic transfer hub for both airlines.
In their application, the airlines emphasized that this collaboration complies with the U.S.–EU Open Skies Agreement and the U.S.–Turkey Air Transport Agreement. Pegasus and Iberia stated that the arrangement “will add value to the market by offering passengers more connections and travel options.”
Following official approvals, the codeshare agreement is planned to be implemented quickly, and ticket sales will commence.
