Pegasus Airlines Employee Seeks Asylum in Germany After Flight

A flight attendant working for Pegasus Airlines sought asylum in Germany following a flight from Istanbul to Düsseldorf.

The cabin crew member, Enes Basmakçı, was staying in Germany with his flight team when he reportedly decided not to return to Turkey. After transferring to a hotel with his colleagues, Basmakçı did not show up for the return flight, signalling his decision to seek asylum.

Emotional Statement on Social Media

In a post on social media, Basmakçı confirmed his decision to apply for asylum in Germany. “I am a cabin crew member at Pegasus Airlines, and I have just sought asylum in Germany,” he wrote. He stated his decision not to return to Turkey and that he had officially filed an asylum application.

Increase in Asylum Applications from Turkey to Germany

In recent years, there has been a notable increase in asylum applications from Turkey to Germany. Despite Germany implementing stricter measures against asylum claims from Turkish nationals, the number of applications remains high.

Basmakçı’s decision is seen as part of this growing trend. His move to seek asylum highlights ongoing tendencies among Turkish nationals to seek refuge in Europe, bringing the issue into focus once again.
