Ercan Airport, which serves as the international gateway of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recorded significant growth in the first two months of 2025. Compared to 2024, the airport saw a notable rise in both passenger and aircraft numbers.
High Growth at Ercan Airport: Passenger Numbers Up by 22.54%
As the largest airport on the island of Cyprus, Ercan Airport stands out for its comfort and high-quality service. Operating 24/7 throughout the year, the airport offers passengers the best experience through eco-friendly practices, energy-efficient operations, and premium indoor conditions. At the core of Ercan Airport’s services lies a deep respect for people, society, and nature.
According to a statement by T&T Airport Management, between 1 January and 28 February 2024, and the same period in 2025, passenger numbers increased by 22.54%, while aircraft numbers rose by 23.48%.
New Runway and Wide-Body Aircraft Drive Passenger Growth
Extending the runway length to 3,000 metres was a crucial step in enabling wide-body aircraft to land at Ercan Airport. This development has been one of the primary factors driving passenger growth. In particular, the introduction of Turkish Airlines’ A-350 wide-body aircraft, along with new flights launched by SunExpress and other airlines, has significantly contributed to the surge in passenger numbers.
Passenger and Aircraft Numbers Rise in Early 2025 Compared to 2024
In the first two months of 2024, Ercan Airport served 676,835 passengers. During the same period in 2025, this figure rose to 829,400. Aircraft traffic also saw a remarkable increase, with 4,442 aircraft landing at the airport in the first two months of 2024, rising to 5,485 in the same period of 2025.
Significant Increase in Passenger Numbers in January and February
In January 2024, Ercan Airport welcomed 334,510 passengers, while in January 2025, this number climbed to 443,811. A similar increase was observed in February, with passenger numbers rising from 342,325 in 2024 to 395,589 in 2025.
