Norwegian Airlines has announced an agreement to purchase ten Boeing 737-800 aircraft currently operated under lease. The acquisition is expected to be finalised in the first quarter of 2025.
The transaction aligns with Norwegian’s long-term strategy to enhance financial flexibility and reduce ownership costs. This move will not only ensure fleet security but also contribute to lowering operational expenses.
Norwegian CEO Geir Karlsen stated: “The agreed terms are attractive for Norwegian, and the transaction aligns with our long-term fleet and ownership strategy. The purchased aircraft are an integral part of our existing fleet and will continue to serve our extensive and appealing route network. This agreement is expected to deliver both short- and long-term cost savings while providing additional flexibility for fleet planning.”
In the initial phase, the transaction will be funded through the company’s existing cash reserves. Following the completion of the purchase, Norwegian plans to explore various financing arrangements to secure long-term funding.
