Turkish Airlines (THY) has introduced a new regulation aimed at enhancing flight safety and cabin discipline. According to the “Passenger Announcements Circular” approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), passengers who stand up before the aircraft has come to a complete stop will now face sanctions.

In a notice sent to cabin crews, Turkish Airlines stated that passengers who stand up, open overhead lockers or fail to follow announcements before the seatbelt sign is turned off upon landing will be considered “Non-Compliant Passengers”. It was emphasised that such violations may result in administrative fines under existing aviation regulations.

New Responsibilities for Cabin Crew

As part of the new policy, the responsibilities of cabin crew have been expanded. Immediately following the farewell announcement after landing, an additional warning must now be issued, reminding passengers not to stand until the seatbelt sign has been turned off.

Strict Controls on Smoking Onboard

According to the DGCA circular that came into effect on 2 May 2025, stricter measures will also be enforced against passengers who smoke on board or fail to follow other rules. Administrative and disciplinary actions will be expedited for any behaviour that poses a threat to flight safety.
