Following discussions held in Istanbul, Turkey’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Serbia’s Civil Aviation Authority signed a new memorandum of understanding, marking a significant step in strengthening air transport between the two countries.
According to the agreement, three new flight routes will be established: Sabiha Gökçen Airport to Niš, Sabiha Gökçen to Kraljevo, and Ankara to Niš. Each route will operate with a frequency of two flights per week. These new routes are expected to diversify and enhance air connectivity between Turkey and Serbia.
Strengthening Connections Between the Two Nations
In a statement from the DGCA, it was emphasised that the memorandum would not only increase air travel options but also provide a significant boost to tourism and trade relations between the two countries. This development aims to facilitate greater passenger transport and trade opportunities between Turkey and Serbia.
Enhancing Regional Cooperation
The newly established routes will further bolster regional ties between Turkey and Serbia, fostering greater cooperation between the two nations. Notably, the Sabiha Gökçen-Kraljevo route is poised to create significant opportunities for regional development, while the Ankara-Niš route will ensure closer connections between the capitals.
This agreement is considered part of Turkey’s strategy to expand its international partnerships in the aviation sector. Diversifying air transport between the two countries is anticipated not only to increase passenger numbers but also to create new business opportunities and promote tourism activity.
