Lufthansa Technik Canada has announced the opening of a new engine repair station in Calgary for CFM LEAP-1B engines. Established to serve WestJet’s Boeing 737 MAX fleet, the facility will provide engine maintenance, repair, and quick-turn services starting in 2027.

The new facility, spanning a total of 14,000 square meters, will employ 160 highly skilled professionals. The 15-year, multi-billion-dollar agreement with WestJet currently covers more than 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with plans to increase this number to 130.

In his statement regarding the significance of the agreement, WestJet’s CEO said:
“WestJet was founded with the mission of enhancing air travel and making it more affordable for Canadians. This historic contract will bring engine repair operations to Canada, improving our operational efficiency while also supporting Alberta’s economy.”

Lufthansa Technik CEO Soeren Stark also commented:
“This agreement is one of the largest maintenance and repair contracts ever awarded for CFM LEAP engines. WestJet’s trust in our expertise and long-term reliability is of great value to us.”
CFM International has established an open MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) ecosystem for LEAP engines. As a CFM Premier MRO partner, Lufthansa Technik is the first independent provider to offer full maintenance services for both LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines.
