The American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has announced that the Hubble Space Telescope has been temporarily put into sleep mode due to a malfunction in its gyroscope system.
In a statement from NASA, it was indicated that the telescope is in a safe but inactive state due to a failure in one of the gyroscopes, which are a part of the long-term focusing system. Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to resolve the issue.
The Hubble Space Telescope, which was placed into orbit in 1990, is capable of continuing its explorations with one or two functioning gyroscopes. The telescope last received six new gyroscopes in 2009.
