Mysterious unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) observed for weeks in the U.S. states of New York and New Jersey continue to heighten security concerns. Authorities are deepening their investigations to understand the origins and purposes of these unusual drone activities.
Governors Call for Action: “This Situation Has Gone Too Far”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul addressed the sightings of mysterious drones near Stewart International Airport last night, describing the situation as having reached a critical level. Hochul called for immediate action from both state intelligence agencies and the federal government, as the incidents caused temporary delays in air traffic.
In her statement, Governor Hochul said:
“Until these powers are granted to state and local authorities, the Biden administration must deploy additional federal law enforcement to ensure the safety of New York and its surroundings, as well as our critical infrastructure.”
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also announced that a drone was detected near Stewart International Airport at 9:30 PM local time yesterday, leading to the closure of runways for approximately one hour.
Similar Incidents in New Jersey
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy also expressed concerns about the mysterious drones. Speaking to a local television channel, Murphy voiced his frustration that the federal government does not have sufficient information on these flights. He announced plans to visit Washington this week to request more federal resources and authority.
According to Murphy, the first sightings of mysterious drones in New Jersey occurred on November 18 over Morris and Somerset counties. Witnesses reported that the drones were as large as a bicycle or a small car.
Security Concerns and Conspiracy Theories: Public Worry Grows
Images shared on social media for days have sparked both fear and speculation among the public. White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest these drones pose a serious threat. However, discussions intensified after claims emerged that the drones were launched from an Iranian vessel.
Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh dismissed these allegations, saying:
“There is no truth to these claims.”
Trump’s Sharp Criticism
Former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a statement on social media, calling on the government to take action:
“Mysterious UAV sightings all over the country. Is this really happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so! Inform the public immediately, or take them down!”
