On the evening of Sunday, December 29, 2024, two separate Boeing 777 aircraft from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines had to return to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) due to technical problems. Both aircraft landed safely, and no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew.
Return of KL835 Flight to Bali
KLM’s KL835 flight, which was heading to Bali (DPS) via Singapore (SIN), took off from Schiphol Airport at 21:54 local time. As the aircraft entered German airspace, technical anomalies were detected. As a result, the captain decided to return, and the plane landed safely in Amsterdam around 23:30.
Flight KL835 was operated with a Boeing 777-306(ER), registered PH-BVS, which was 7.9 years old. It was reported to be equipped with GE90 engines.
Water System Issue on KL895 Flight to Shanghai
That same evening, the KL895 flight from Amsterdam to Shanghai (PVG) returned to Amsterdam due to a problem with the drinking water system over Azerbaijan’s airspace. The plane initiated return procedures and made a safe landing at Schiphol around 23:30.
This flight was operated by a Boeing 777-206(ER), registered PH-BQD, which was 21.1 years old.
Previous Day’s Oslo-Amsterdam Incident
These incidents followed another KLM flight’s issues during takeoff from Oslo to Amsterdam the day before. On Saturday, a KLM aircraft was diverted to another Norwegian airport after an unusual noise during takeoff. The plane left the runway at low speed and stopped in a grassy area. Emergency response teams safely evacuated the six crew members and all passengers aboard.
Passengers were transported to Amsterdam the following day.
