Turkish Airlines (THY) has taken a significant step toward reviving air traffic with Syria. A THY delegation held critical meetings in Damascus with the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority and Syrian Air management. Discussions focused on the resumption of Damascus-Istanbul flights and the technical details of the process.

THY Officials Engage in Talks in Damascus

Erol Şenol, THY Vice President for Sales in the Middle East and Cyprus, made important statements about the visit.

Şenol noted that they arrived in Damascus with a technical team and were warmly welcomed. He stated: “We held comprehensive discussions with the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority and the management of Syrian Air. Our technical teams took notes, and the airport operations were thoroughly evaluated.”

Countdown to Damascus-Istanbul Flights

Şenol highlighted that the main focus of the talks was restarting flights between Damascus and Istanbul, saying:

“We reviewed the operational processes of the airport and assessed Syrian Air’s fleet structure. Our goal is to strengthen the technical and technological infrastructure of Syrian Air. We aim to launch Damascus-Istanbul flights as soon as possible. Work is ongoing to finalize a specific date, which we will announce to the public shortly.”

Diplomatic Support and Collaboration

Şenol acknowledged the vital role of the Turkish Embassy in Damascus in the process, stating: “We extend our gratitude to the Turkish Embassy in Damascus and its staff for their contributions throughout this effort.”

The ongoing efforts by Turkish Airlines in Damascus represent a significant step in restoring aviation ties between the two nations. The resumption of flights is expected to enhance trade and tourism between Turkey and Syria in the near future.
