The Ministry of National Defense (MSB) announced at its weekly press briefing that signatures have been finalized for Turkey’s procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from the United Kingdom. Ministry Spokesperson Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk stated that the agreement will significantly enhance the combat power of the Turkish Air Force.
20 New Eurofighter Typhoons Coming to Turkey
In its statement, the MSB said: “The procurement includes 20 newly manufactured Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, mission equipment for the aircraft, and various munitions, with a project cost of approximately £5.4 billion.” The agreement was highlighted as a significant milestone in Turkey’s efforts to modernize its defense capabilities.
Turkish Armed Forces Continue Counter-Terrorism Operations
Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk also provided information on the Turkish Armed Forces’ activities over the past week during the press briefing.
Aktürk stated, “Within the scope of operations against risks and threats to our country, seven PKK terrorists surrendered in the past week. Together with the six-kilometre tunnel destroyed in the Tel Rıfat and Manbij regions, the total length of tunnels destroyed in the Syrian Operation Areas has reached 708 kilometres (Tel Rıfat: 302 / Manbij: 406 km).”
Strict Security Measures at the Borders
Sharing the latest situation regarding border security, Aktürk emphasized the determination to prevent illegal crossings:
“In the past week, 181 individuals attempting to cross our borders illegally were caught, and 881 individuals were prevented from crossing. Of these, three were members of terrorist organizations. Since January 1, the number of people apprehended is 8,205, and the number of people prevented from crossing is 55,600.”
As a result of continuous search and scanning operations carried out by border units, 123 kilograms of narcotics were seized on the Van line, and 36 kilograms of gold wrapped in bundles were seized on the Hakkâri line.
“The Turkish Armed Forces Are On Duty”
Rear Admiral Aktürk concluded his statement with the following words:
“The Turkish Armed Forces continue to carry out their duties with determination under all conditions for the peace of our nation, the survival of our state, and the security of our country.”
