MH370 Search Efforts Suspended!

The search efforts for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which were resumed after 11 years, have been suspended until the end of the year.

Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated in an interview with the AFP news agency that the search operation has been halted for now and will resume at the end of the year.

One of the Largest Search Efforts in History

The Boeing 777, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers, is considered one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history.

The initial search efforts, led by Australia, covered an area of 120,000 square kilometers in the Indian Ocean over three years, but only a few pieces of debris were found.

A second search, conducted in 2018 by the UK and US-based Ocean Infinity company, also yielded no results. Earlier this year, the company agreed to start a new search, but the efforts have been temporarily halted.

Seasonal Obstacles to the Search

Minister Loke explained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport that the search has been suspended due to unfavorable seasonal conditions, emphasizing that it is impossible to make a definitive prediction about whether the plane will be found.

Statement from the “MH370 Families”

The “MH370 Families” group, which represents those who lost loved ones on the flight, confirmed that the search was suspended due to seasonal weather changes and the company’s other commercial commitments.

According to a statement made in December, Ocean Infinity was set to scan a 15,000 square kilometer area south of the Indian Ocean. The company’s search efforts are based on the “No Find, No Fee” principle, meaning the Malaysian government will only pay if the aircraft is found.
