Metro Aviation has signed an agreement with Airbus Helicopters for up to 36 H140 helicopters to enhance its emergency medical services (EMS) operations. The H140, unveiled at the VERTICON Expo in Dallas, Texas, was selected with Metro Aviation as the launch customer.
The Louisiana-based air medical operator, headquartered in Shreveport, initially ordered 12 H140s, with an option for an additional 24 helicopters.

In the coming years, we are set to design a state-of-the-art cabin interior to ensure safe and high-quality air medical transport.”
Airbus Helicopters’ President of the United States and Head of North America, Bart Reijnen, emphasised the importance of the partnership with Metro Aviation, stating that the next-generation Airbus helicopters will enhance operational capabilities and enable better service to communities across the country.
H140: Ushering in a New Era for Emergency Medical Services
The H140, Airbus Helicopters’ latest light twin-engine model, is revolutionising the sector with its performance, cost efficiency, and comfort for both passengers and crew.
Key features of the H140:
- A T-tail boom with optimised Fenestron technology, delivering lower noise levels and enhanced stability.
- A five-blade, bearingless main rotor that reduces maintenance requirements while increasing reliability.
- A spacious cabin with large windows, improving passenger comfort and pilot visibility.
- An optimised interior layout with seating for six passengers, providing ample space for various air medical equipment.
- Large sliding doors and rear-loading capabilities, facilitating the easy placement of critical medical equipment, such as intensive care stretchers and transport incubators.
As Metro Aviation strengthens its global leadership position in the EMS segment, the H140 is expected to enter service in 2028. The company continues to stand out worldwide with its expertise in air medical operations and multi-role helicopter customisation.
