In the summer of 2025, Germany became the largest international air market in the region with over 5.85 million seat capacity for flights to former Yugoslav countries between March 30 and October 25. This figure represents a 7.2% increase compared to the summer season of 2024. Germany continues to rank among the top three largest markets for all former Yugoslav countries.
Record Connections Between Germany and Croatia
With a seat capacity of 2,842,093, Croatia has become Germany’s largest international market. This capacity shows a 6.4% increase compared to the previous year. Ryanair is the largest airline between the two countries with a 26.2% capacity share, followed by Eurowings and Croatia Airlines. A total of 16 cities in Germany offer direct flights to Croatia.
Serbia: Germany’s Largest Partner
Serbia, with a seat capacity of 1,001,302 to Germany, is Germany’s largest market in the region. This capacity has increased by 6% compared to the previous year. Lufthansa, operating on just two routes with wide-body Airbus A321 aircraft, is the largest carrier, followed by Air Serbia, Wizz Air, and Eurowings. This summer, 14 different German cities are directly connected to Serbia.
Macedonia: Germany’s Second Largest Market After Turkey
This summer, Macedonia, with a seat capacity of 576,622, ranks as Germany’s second-largest market after Turkey. The capacity has increased by 2.8% compared to the previous year. Only two airlines operate on this route: Wizz Air, leading with an 83.6% share, followed by Lufthansa. Ten cities in Germany offer scheduled flight connections to Macedonia.
Bosnia and Herzegovina Sees Major Jump: 41.1% Increase
Bosnia and Herzegovina follows closely with 573,696 seat capacity, just behind Macedonia. This year’s increase represents a remarkable 41.1% rise compared to last year. Ryanair is the largest operator, followed by Wizz Air and Lufthansa. Nine cities in Germany offer direct flights to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Decline in Pristina, Charter Flights Not Included in the Count
The capital of Kosovo, Pristina, has a seat capacity of 232,529 with Germany. However, this figure only includes scheduled flights and does not account for charter flights. This has led to a 10.2% decline in capacity. The primary reason for this drop is the frequency reduction by Condor and easyJet. Germany remains Pristina’s second-largest market after Switzerland.
Lufthansa Dominates in Slovenia
Slovenia’s seat capacity with Germany reached 231,108, marking a 22.9% increase compared to the previous year. All flights are operated by the Lufthansa Group, with 88.3% of the capacity belonging to Lufthansa and the remainder to Eurowings. Only Frankfurt, Munich, and Düsseldorf offer direct flights to Ljubljana.
Montenegro Sees 17.1% Growth
Germany has become Montenegro’s third-largest international market with 191,980 seat capacity, following Serbia and Turkey. The capacity has increased by 17.1% compared to last year. Wizz Air is the largest carrier, followed by Eurowings and easyJet. National carriers Lufthansa and Air Montenegro rank fifth and sixth, respectively. Montenegro will have direct flights to seven different cities in Germany this summer.
