Lithuania has officially announced its decision to purchase three C-390 Millennium multifunctional military transport aircraft produced by Embraer. With this, Lithuania strengthens Embraer’s position in the defense market both in Europe and globally as the 11th country to select the C-390 platform.
Lithuanian Deputy Minister of National Defense, Loreta Maskaliovienė, stated in an announcement by Embraer: “We carefully reviewed various military transport aircraft available on the market. Our assessment clearly showed that the C-390 Millennium is the platform that best meets our national military operational needs.” Maskaliovienė added, “Therefore, we decided to enter into further negotiations with Embraer and aim to finalize the purchase contract in the coming months.”
Bosco Da Costa Jr., President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, said, “We are honored that Lithuanian officials have chosen Embraer. This decision is critically important for our company’s strategy to strengthen defense capabilities in Europe.”
This development, announced during the Le Bourget Air Show, marks Embraer’s third consecutive sales announcement related to its flagship defense product, the C-390 Millennium. On Monday, Portugal announced it expanded its C-390 fleet to six aircraft with a delivery scheduled for 2029 and added 10 options for future purchases. On Tuesday, a new contract was signed with the Netherlands for an air ambulance evacuation model; this agreement includes seven options that NATO allies can also utilize.
The C-390 Millennium is a significant platform preferred in Europe by Austria, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands, while Slovakia has also expressed intent to purchase. Hungary and Portugal are currently operating the C-390 successfully. Brazil, South Korea, and other undisclosed customers form Embraer’s global user base.
