Two separate aircraft belonging to Turkish Airlines (THY) and Pegasus Airlines, which took off from Istanbul, were struck by lightning shortly after takeoff and returned to their respective airports for safety reasons. Both planes landed safely, ensuring flight security.
THY Plane Returns Safely
A Turkish Airlines flight operating on the Istanbul-Abu Dhabi route was struck by lightning shortly after departing from Istanbul Airport. The pilot announced the decision to return, emphasizing that there were no issues concerning flight safety. Passengers reportedly remained calm during the incident.
Pegasus Aircraft Undergoes Inspection
A Pegasus Airlines Airbus A321neo, registered as TC-RFH and operating on the Sabiha Gökçen-Çukurova route, was also struck by lightning shortly after takeoff. The pilots decided to return to Sabiha Gökçen Airport for a technical inspection.
Passengers were safely disembarked, and a replacement aircraft was assigned to minimize inconvenience. The new flight, scheduled for 11:40 PM, will be operated by an Airbus A321neo registered as TC-RDY.
