In Langen, Germany, near Egelsbach Airport, a helicopter and a private plane pilot faced the danger of being blinded by a laser pointer. Authorities believe the incident was caused by a child playing with a laser pointer on a family balcony.
Air Traffic at Risk
The laser beam significantly impaired the pilots’ vision during flight. After the incident was noticed, Egelsbach Airport officials and a neighbor who experienced vision problems reported the situation to the police. Law enforcement traced the source of the laser to the young individual.
No Criminal Liability, But Investigation Ongoing
Due to the child’s age, they cannot be held criminally responsible. However, the police have initiated an investigation on charges of endangering air traffic. While no damage was reported, authorities urged families to remain vigilant to prevent similar occurrences.
Such laser attacks pose a severe threat to air traffic and passenger safety and are subject to strict penalties under international aviation regulations.
