Japan Airlines and Delta Planes Collide During Taxiing

At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington, USA, a Japan Airlines passenger aircraft collided with the tail of a parked Delta Air Lines plane while taxiing. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Collision During Taxiing

The incident occurred when a Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, arriving from Narita International Airport, was taxiing after landing. The aircraft, carrying 172 passengers and 13 crew members, struck the tail of a stationary Delta Air Lines Boeing 737 with its right wing. The Delta aircraft had 142 passengers on board. Official Statements

Delta Air Lines confirmed that no injuries were reported and that passengers traveling to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, were transferred to another aircraft.

Japan Airlines issued a statement saying:
“Upon arrival at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport from Narita International Airport, our aircraft made contact with another plane’s tail while taxiing. No injuries have been reported. We sincerely apologize to all affected by this incident.”

FAA Investigates the Incident

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation, temporarily halting some flights to examine the cause of the incident. Aviation safety experts suggest that taxiing collisions typically result from pilot error, miscommunication with ground control, or operational oversights.
