According to a report published by EUROCONTROL, Istanbul Airport retained its title as Europe’s busiest airport in 2024. With an average of 1,401 daily flights, it claimed the top spot for the third year in a row.
Turkey’s Pride in Aviation: Istanbul Airport
As one of Turkey’s major infrastructure projects, Istanbul Airport has rapidly become a key global aviation hub. Since its inauguration, the airport has broken numerous records and bolstered the country’s international standing in the aviation sector.
EUROCONTROL’s “Overview of European Aviation” report for 2024 revealed that Istanbul Airport increased its flight volume by 2% compared to 2023, maintaining its position at the top.
Europe’s Busiest Airports
The EUROCONTROL report highlighted the rankings of Europe’s busiest airports:
- Istanbul Airport – Average of 1,401 daily flights
- Amsterdam Schiphol – Average of 1,336 daily flights
- London Heathrow – Average of 1,302 daily flights
Remaining at the top for three consecutive years, Istanbul Airport has further solidified its central role in Europe’s aviation landscape.
Turkish Airlines Also Shines
The report also included performance details of airlines. Turkish Airlines (THY) ranked third across Europe, operating an average of 1,435 flights daily in 2024.
Additionally, with a daily average of 3,140 flights from airports across Turkey, the country secured sixth place among European nations with the highest number of flights.
