The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) published EUROCONTROL’s November 2024 Air Traffic Operations Report. The report, released on December 11, 2024, revealed that Istanbul Airport outperformed other major European airports, securing the top position. With a daily average of 1,339 flights, Istanbul Airport surpassed both London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol, solidifying its position as Europe’s leading airport.
Turkish Airlines Strives for the Top
The report highlighted Turkish Airlines (THY) as the second busiest airline in Europe, with a daily average of 1,347 flights. Meanwhile, Pegasus Airlines ranked 11th on the list, with an average of 503 flights per day.
Ankara Airspace Ranks 4th in Europe
In the rankings of air traffic control centers (ACC), Ankara stood out as Europe’s 4th busiest airspace, with a daily average of 3,830 flights. This achievement underscores Turkey’s significant role in air traffic management.
Sabiha Gokcen in the Top 10
Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport also made the list, ranking as Europe’s 10th busiest airport with a daily average of 651 flights.
