Global Airline Passenger Numbers at an All-Time High
According to a report by the Turkey Tourism Encyclopedia, based on global air traffic data from Airports Council International (ACI) for 2024:

The total number of passengers traveling by air worldwide exceeded 9.4 billion.

This figure represents an 8.4% increase compared to 2023 and a 2.7% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
Busiest Airports: Istanbul Ranked 7th
Based on data collected from over 2,800 airports, ACI announced the world’s busiest airports for 2024:

Cargo transportation: 127 million metric tons (an annual increase of 9.9%)

Global aircraft movements: 100.6 million (up 3.9% year-on-year)

Aircraft movements at the top 20 airports: 11.08 million (a 5.4% increase)
Other Notable Highlights

The United States leads the list with six airports, where an average of 56% of passengers (excluding JFK) are international travelers.

Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN) maintained its 12th place position as it continued to recover post-pandemic.

Shanghai Pudong (PVG) jumped 11 places to reach the 10th spot.
