The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that Istanbul Airport outperformed its European competitors between November 4-10, maintaining its leading position with an average of 1,359 daily flights.
In a written statement, Minister Uraloğlu evaluated the European Aviation Overview Report published by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). He highlighted that the report once again confirmed Istanbul Airport’s success.
Istanbul Airport: Europe’s Busiest Hub
According to EUROCONTROL data, Istanbul Airport became Europe’s busiest airport between November 4-10, with an average of 1,359 daily flights. Minister Uraloğlu emphasised that it surpassed major airports in key European capitals such as London, Amsterdam, and Paris. Furthermore, he noted that Istanbul Airport ranked 9th globally among 25 major airports, with an average of 686 daily departures.
Turkey Among Top 6 in Europe for Air Traffic
Uraloğlu revealed that Turkey ranks 6th in Europe for the highest air traffic volume, with an average of 2,815 daily flights. He highlighted the efficiency of Turkish airspace, with an average delay of less than 0.5 minutes per flight, making it Europe’s most efficient airspace.
France Records the Longest Delays
Commenting on airspace delays across Europe, Uraloğlu stated that France’s Paris airspace had the highest delay rate, with an average of 1.9 minutes per flight. Other notable delays were recorded in Seville (Spain) with 1.3 minutes, Lisbon (Portugal) with 0.9 minutes, and Barcelona (Spain) with 0.6 minutes.
Turkey Aiming for the Top in Air Transport
Minister Uraloğlu underlined that the success achieved by Istanbul Airport reflects Turkey’s rise in the aviation sector. He pointed out that the speed, safety, and efficiency advantages of Turkish airspace are turning Turkey into a global player in aviation.
