Istanbul Airport Becomes Europe’s Busiest Hub: Tops EUROCONTROL’s 2025 Report

According to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), Istanbul Airport has once again secured its position as the busiest airport in Europe. The European Aviation Report covering the week of 9–15 June 2025 reveals that Istanbul Airport maintained its top spot with an average of 1,591 flights per day.

Based on EUROCONTROL’s traffic data, Istanbul Airport has not only become the main aviation hub of Turkey but has also emerged as the primary gateway of European air traffic. The report lists other major European airports in the following order:

  • Amsterdam Schiphol Airport – 1,446 flights/day

  • Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport – 1,389 flights/day

  • Frankfurt Airport – 1,380 flights/day

  • London Heathrow Airport – 1,346 flights/day

These figures highlight Istanbul Airport’s strategic importance in international transit, its growing role in global connectivity, and the steady increase in its passenger traffic.

After a strong start to 2025, Istanbul Airport continues to lead Europe’s air traffic rankings, contributing significantly to Turkey’s growing success in global aviation.
