Following the fall of the Assad regime, Israel has intensified its airstrikes on Syrian territory, raising the total number of attacks to 473. On December 8, the Tel Aviv administration announced the regime’s collapse and stated its aim to completely dismantle Syria’s military infrastructure through these operations.
Targets: Air Defense Systems and Missile Depots
The strikes have primarily focused on Syrian military airbases, radar systems, air defense units, and weapon and ammunition depots. The recent strikes were reportedly among the most intense operations conducted by Israeli aircraft since 2012.
The targeted locations include:
- 23rd Air Defense Brigade Headquarters: Positions near Harison, Katiba, Askabla, and Dahr El-Balotiya villages.
- Darikis and Marsahin Areas: Missile launch sites and bases in the Tartus countryside.
- Northern Sahl Akar: Air defense positions and missile depots in Malka village.
- Zama Region: Missile launchers stationed at the 107th Brigade headquarters.
The strikes in Tartus caused powerful explosions and significant material damage due to the detonation of surface-to-surface missiles. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
Strikes in Misyaf and Al-Dumayr
Israeli forces also targeted the Misyaf area. In Al-Dumayr, located in Rif Damascus, strikes on regime-controlled weapon depots triggered successive explosions. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirmed that no casualties occurred in these incidents either.
Explosion on Bridge Over Euphrates River
In an unrelated incident, an explosion occurred on the only bridge connecting SDG-controlled Hatla village with nearby settlements across the Euphrates River. The perpetrators and details of this explosion remain unclear.
Intensified Operations and Their Consequences
Israel’s intensified airstrikes in Syria continue to escalate regional tensions. While the operations aim to degrade Syria’s military infrastructure and reinforce Israel’s strategic dominance, the absence of civilian casualties remains a small relief amid the heightened conflict.
