Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (ISG) has achieved a major milestone, according to the April 2025 Air Traffic Report published by Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe). In the “MAJOR Airports” category — which includes airports serving over 40 million passengers annually — ISG recorded a 14.1% increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year, earning the title of Europe’s fastest-growing airport.
Standing out with its remarkable increase in passenger traffic, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport welcomed 3.8 million passengers in April 2025, ranking as the 9th busiest airport in Europe. This success has further solidified ISG’s position as Turkey’s second-busiest airport and one of the top 10 airports in Europe.
According to data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI), Sabiha Gökçen Airport hosted a total of 14,107,870 passengers in the first four months of 2025. Of this total, 5,982,000 were on domestic flights, while 8,125,000 were international travellers — representing a year-on-year increase of over 10%.
During the same period, the airport saw a total of 82,514 flights. This included 34,186 domestic and 48,328 international flights, reflecting an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2024, which recorded a total of 76,673 flights.
ISG achieved strong momentum not only in April but also throughout the first four months of the year. In the “MAJOR Airports” category, it posted the highest growth rate in Europe with a 10.3% increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year. With a total of 14.1 million passengers, ISG again ranked 9th among European airports.
