Israeli media have claimed that Turkish Airlines (THY) is considering contacting Israeli officials in the coming days to resume scheduled round-trip flights to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport.
The development was first reported by Channel 12 and later echoed by other local media outlets. While Turkish Airlines has not yet issued any official decision or statement, Tel Aviv is not currently included in the company’s existing flight schedules. The airline has also not released any press announcement regarding a possible resumption of flights.
Some sources have linked the potential move to U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposals aimed at securing the release of hostages and ending the war in Gaza, suggesting that the plan aligns with ongoing diplomatic initiatives involving Turkey. However, Turkish Airlines has made no public comment regarding these claims.
No Return Expected in the Near Future
According to the report, Turkish airlines have continued to avoid the Israeli market in recent months. At the end of April, Turkish Airlines suspended its Ben Gurion flights and announced that it did not plan to return in the short term. This stance aligns with the policies of other foreign airlines that halted services since October 2023.
Despite Ankara’s recent political tensions with Israel, the potential signal of a restart has drawn attention. On 29 August, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Turkish airspace would be closed to some Israeli flights and that commercial restrictions would be increased. Before the war, Turkish Airlines operated between 10 and 16 daily flights on the Tel Aviv–Istanbul route; Istanbul served as a major transit hub for Israeli passengers travelling to Europe, North America, and Asia.
